Hello! I'm Viki.

I create joyful hand embroidered artworks inspired by everyday magic. My work is about sharing and celebrating my experiences and connections with nature as well as noticing and recording the little moments of magic that happen as I go about my day. I choose to express this through the contemplative act of stitching.

I believe that over the years our deep connection to nature has been severed, causing detrimental effects to our planet as well as our own health. We are not separate from nature but rather an integral part of it. My art is a response to my own connection with nature through exploration into the changing shapes and forms of garden plants during the cycle of the seasons.

My process always begins with drawing; responding to plants and flowers through expressive lines and marks using graphite and coloured pencils. These drawings inform my hand embroidery although the development of each embroidered piece is intuitive; I do not start with a pre-conceived idea of how the piece will look when it is finished. Hand embroidery is, by its nature, a slow and contemplative process which enables me to explore each plant through repetitive marks and carefully chosen colours. Each piece is a response to the combined uplifting effects of immersion in nature and the creative act of embroidery.
